Sunday, April 22: Chase Wright (1-0)(NYY) vs. Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-2)(BOS)
Just a couple of "rookie" pitchers playing in the storied rivalry between the Yankees and Red Sox. As if anything that transpires between these teams could be called "just." D-Mat mania goes up a notch for this outing. Watch for gyro-balls.(Win Probability Graphing by Fangraphs)
Chase Wright: 3.0IP, 5H, 4R, 4ER, 3BB, 3SO, 4HR - ND
Andy Pettitte: 1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB, 0SO, 0HR - H
Scott Proctor: 0.0IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, 0SO, 1HR - BS, L
Daisuke Matsuzaka: 7.0IP, 8H, 6R, 6ER, 1BB, 7SO, 1HR - W
Hideki Okajima: 0.1IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB, 0SO, 0HR - H
Brendan Donnelly: 0.2IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 0SO, 0HR - H
Jonathan Papelbon: 1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB, 1SO, 0HR - SV
Crazy, crazy game. Andy Pettitte gets a hold in relief - unusual for a starter. And that burns his arm a bit for his next start for a rotation already hobbled. D-Mat gets a win despite giving up the 6 earned runs. This one was all offense.
Monday, April 23: Cha Seung Baek (0-0)(SEA) vs. Kevin Millwood (2-2)(TEX)
Baek gets the call to fill in for the King as Felix Hernandez spends some time recovering from his injuries. Baek quietly put up some good numbers as a starter late last year and shows a lot of promise. Millwood flirts with being the staff ace. If that's possible to do in the hitting paradise that is Arlington, Texas.(Win Probability Graphing by Fangraphs)
Cha Seung Baek: 4.1IP, 8H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 1SO, 1HR - ND
Brandon Morrow: 3.1IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 2BB, 2SO, 0HR - W
JJ Putz: 1.1IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 0SO, 0HR - SV
Kevin Millwood: 6.0IP, 10H, 5R, 5ER, 2BB, 5SO, 0HR - L
10 hits allowed in just six innings pitched? That's asking for trouble in that small Texas ballpark.
Tuesday, April 24: Chien-Ming Wang (0-0)(NYY) vs. Scott Kazmir (1-1)(TB)
Wang gets his first start coming off the disabled list and comes up against the only pitcher to beat Johan Santana in Minnesota in over a year: Scott Kazmir.(Win Probability Graphing by Fangraphs)
Chien-Ming Wang: 6.1IP, 9H, 4R, 4ER, 0BB, 3SO, 0HR - L
Luis Vizcaino: 0.1IP, 0H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 0SO, 0HR - H
Mike Myers: 0.0IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 0SO, 1HR - BS
Scott Kazmir: 6.2IP, 5H, 3R, 1ER, 2BB, 5SO, 1HR - ND
Juan Salas: 0.1IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 0HR - W
Shawn Camp: 1.0IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 1SO, 0HR - H
Al Reyes: 1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 2SO, 0HR - SV
It must be nice to pick up a win on just one-third of an inning of work. Tough break for Kazmir though. I doubt Wang will put together another 19-win season this year.
